Genetics of the Rom

Postby dpyates » Thu May 12, 2016 5:50 pm

Here is the latest study, from European Journal of Human Genetics. What interests me are the mitochondrial lines of founder Gypsy women H7, J1b3, J1c1, M18, M35b, M5a1, U3, and X2d. Does anyone have these haplogroups in their family in tandem with Gypsy heritage?

Melissa, your haplogroup is determined by a cheek swab test. It is a simple process- the link to order the test from DNA Consultants is
[https://dnaconsultants.com/product/our-tests/premium-female-dna-test-mtdna/]

You can see a sample of the test before ordering. Please call us at 888-806-2588 10AM-6PM Mountain time if you have questions.

One possible explanation is that you got Romani from your mother's father or your father's mother. The haplogoup tests don't cross gender boundaries.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
Recently tested and have world population rank: 1. Macedonian Romani (Gypsy), 4. Romani-Presov, Slovak Republic, 10. Hungarian-Romany-Baryanya/Debrecan regions. Romani ranks first in Megapopulations and sixteenth in European populations. My mtDNA haplogroup group is H. I have not tested for full haplogroup. My father's mother is: H1ag1b. Did not know of any Romani heritage.

My Romani is very low on the Megapopulations Relative strength graph but Dr Yates asked if anyone had haplogroup H7.
My father via his mtDNA is H7; on the Rare Genes test I show Sinti C. We were unaware of any Romani/gypsy background in his lineage.
My mother is another story. While still unaware of any Romani/gypsy, her paternal line is an R, maternal is T and a g-grandmother resided in Silesia and most likely is buried there. We have little to no information on her background.
Because of the R designation and general area immigrated from, we were aware of Slavic designation so getting a match to Rare Gene People of the Steppes was not surprising.
Then again it showed heavy on Native American which floored me.
Need to learn more; the DNA Consultant site is a new arena of learning that is more of a challenge for me being acclimated to other sites though even there not professional in my knowledge.
