The Maine Coon cat was one of the first cats to be DNA sequenced. I wondered when the forumbegan in 2005 what could be discovered about human migrations and cats. Well, DNA testing revealed that the Maine Coon Cat was related to the Noreigian Forrest Cat. The cat was brought to America in ships. This proves at least that Vikings were in this area. Maybe more will be discovered. Here is a link to Frank Joseph book Legends and Lore in Ancient America in reference to this

How about the Norwegian Elkhound? Is there any mystery about its origin? I guess it's just a regular dog without the unusual physique like the Maine Coon.

Bones of Elkhound (or at least Spitz-type) dating to 4000 B.C. have been discovered in Norway.
DNA evidence suggests the Elkhound descends from a now-extinct subspecies of grey wolf from south central Europe and western Russia.
Nicknamed the “Dog of the Vikings,” the Elkhound served as a hunter, guardian, and herder since at least Viking times.
In Medieval times, the breed was known as a dyrehund, Norwegian for “animal-dog.”
