Hi Deborah,
So far I've not been able to identify my Wayne Co KY Cherokee ancestors by name. However, several years ago a Sherrill cousin and I wrote a Sherrill family history. If you give me your email address, I can send it to you by email attachment.

Re: Wayne Co KY Cherokees
Thanks so much, Dorene, for all of the suggestions for further study. I do have a tree in ancestry.com and I'll get back to it and search it as you've suggested. Your family history in the posts is quite interesting. Great that you now know about your Cherokee ancestors. The rest of us can hope for ...

Re: American Roma Surnames
All I can suggest is that you continue researching the circumstances and history surrounding each of your ancestors. This can often help in piecing together their life stories. The process can be frustrating but also satisfying. Best of luck with your searches.

Cherokee and Michigan Native American Links?
Were there ancient ancestral ties between the Cherokees and the Mohawks and Mahicans of New Netherlands (1600s)? Are Mohawks and Mahicans classified as Michigan Native Americans? These notes are taken from CHEROKEE DNA STUDIES (2014) by Don and Teresa Yates: Pages 168-169 - “…Anecdotally people of C...

Re: Mexican/Central/So.American Great-grandparents
Thanks and I’m hoping my steps described above in finally finding my elusive Hispanic ancestors might give clues to others who are also wishing to locate their own Hispanic ancestors.

Re: Mexican/Central/So.American Great-grandparents
It’s been almost three years since I posted the above on July 10, 2016, “Mexican/Central/So.American Great-grandparents.” I was very confused by my Fingerprint Plus DNA test results of 38 out of 50 World Population Matches being Hispanic. I wondered why my ancestry.com tree did not show a large numb...

Re: Wayne Co KY Cherokees
Thanks for your reply, James. My Great…grandmother Unknown b. Abt 1790 who married James Loyd (b. 1785-89 in Washington Co VA-Greene Co TN) might have been a descendant of Cherokees, not full-blooded, just like the Coopers, Blevinses and Burkes in Wayne County, Kentucky. This is another quote from t...

Re: Athabascan GG Slave VA
I wrote a family history about Miss Nelson, her family and descendants but, of course, I couldn’t find anything in NELSON family online records in Virginia or nearby states about Nelson female slaves. Two others with similar stories as Miss Nelson’s are - KERANHAPPUCH NELSON and JANE SPURLOCK. I fou...
